DESCRIPTION:
This dataset contains data on infant (under age of 1) mortality in Latvia in 1920-2020 according to the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics codes of Latvia, status 2020 (NUTS:LV). Infant mortality was relatively high in the interwar period, but appropriate for the time period. There were also significant regional differences, which tended to decrease. Infant mortality declined rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s due to global medical advances and the centralization of childbirth in medical facilities.
