DESCRIPTION:
This dataset contains data on GDP in Latvia in 1919-2022 according to the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics codes of Latvia, status 2020 (NUTS:LV). In the interwar period, in the late 1930s, Latvia's GDP was the largest of the Baltic States. During the occupation period of the USSR until 1975, there was a relatively rapid increase in GDP, which was followed by stagnation and a decrease in GDP from 1986. During the occupation period of the USSR, a large part of the added value created by the GDP was used outside the territory of Latvia and did not contribute to the well-being of the Latvian population. After the restoration of independence, the economic transformation was overcome, the GDP grew until the global economic crisis (2008), after a two-year decline, growth resumed.
